Emily Delahunty, a woman with a past, became a romantic novelist and now owns a villa in Italy. When she is caught up in a bomb blast on a train, she invites some of the survivors to convalesce at her home: a young German; and elderly man; and a little girl. As they all attempt to cope with their loss and grief, Mrs Delahunty becomes painfully aware of the gap between reality and her fiction.
